Atlantic Canada's "Garden of the Gulf", Prince Edward Island is a premier cycling destination. Its small yet friendly population, flat country roads and spectacular sea vistas make the island ideal for bicycle touring. Eastwind Cycle offers you a different look at PEI concentrating on the western region, an area of small seaports, lighthouses and flat paved country roads. The focal point of this trip is the new Confederation Trail, a rails to trails development that serves as the key for or day trips.
The region is low lying farm land surrounded by a coastline interspersed with virtually empty sand beaches and small harbours where lobster boats lie at anchor. P.E.I. is famous for Cavendish National Park and the home of Anne of Green Gables. We'll take you to these popular attractions but provide lots of quiet charm as well. If you like easy biking in a quiet pastoral setting with a lot of seaside thrown in, then this trip is for you. Prince Edward Island is a land of red earth and lush green fields, of blue sky and sandy beaches. Salt water marshes, red sandstone outcrops, rippling sand dunes, colourful fishing boats, shady woodlands, and open fields all lend their charm to P.E.I. People come from far and wide to visit Green Gables, the famous home of L.M. Montgomery's fictional character Anne Shirley. Much of the land is devoted to potato farming, but the fisheries are still very much alive. The oysters and mussels from this region are world-famous. There is no shortage of good food and warm hospitality. Refreshing salt breezes keeps the temperature comfortable in summertime. Take in the charm of small towns lined with turn of the century homes and country inns, and venture along the back roads, winding among green hills, always in sight of the sea. Eastwind Cycle goes the extra mile when selecting fine accommodations and excellent cuisine. After a long day's ride, relaxation and good nourishment are welcome and needed. P.E.I inns and eateries are noted for their warmth and charm. |
