Prince Edward Island offers one of the most scenic routes accessible by bicycle. Our itinerary reflects the most interesting and worth while spots as well as many hidden gems along the way. Day 1We bike the Confederation Trail out of Summerside to Kensington at the trail's end. From here, it's on to Cavendish for a glimpse of the Anne of green Gables homestead. In the afternoon, we return to the Summerside for the night. Day 2Leaving Summerside, again by the trail, we head in the opposite direction, along the shore to our destination. Tonight we stay at the historic West Point Lighthouse, the only lighthouse on the East coast with guest rooms. Here you are surrounded by Cedar Dunes Provincial Park, featuring miles of empty beach perfect for a seaside stroll to end the day. Day 3From West Point, we hug the shore, passing through colourful Acadian fishing villages, working our way north to the picturesque village of Tignish. We check in to the Tignish Heritage Inn, a fully restored heritage property built in 1868. Day 4On from Tignish, we wend our way up the coast to North Cape. This is the northernmost point on the island, a rugged windswept point where the Northumberland Strait meets the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Turning our backs to the wind, we coast back to a quiet, protected arm of Cascumpec Bay, Mill River. On our last evening, we stay and dine in style at the well known Rodd Mill River Resort. Day 5From Mill River we head east towards Summerside, following the Confederation Trail. The day ends in PEI National park where we will stay and dine at the newly renovated Stanhope Lodge and enjoy a farewell dinner overlooking the sea. Day 6Up early fro a cruise along the shore and a walk among the dunes, then back to the inn for a relaxed breakfast before departure to Charlottetown Airport. |
