Day 1 Arrival and Walking Tour of Puebla UNESCO SiteMeet your guides at Mexico City Airport (or Hotel Colonial in Puebla) and transfer via deluxe bus to Puebla. It is a two hour drive out of the Valle de Mexico into the pine forest as we pass the slopes of the sleeping giant, Volcan de Popocateptl. Once settled into the Hotel Colonial in the heart of Puebla's Centro Historic, we will take a walking tour of some of monuments in the UNESCO World Heritage Site that abuts the hotel. At our welcome dinner, we'll have a chance to try some of famous Mole Poblano and drink good local coffee on the central square. Distance: 2 hour walk Transportation: 2 Hours Day 2 San Juan Raya and Tehuacan Click the Video, to see the ride! Transfer to San Nicolas Tepoxtitlan to start our first bike ride. We start our adventure into cactus bush in San Juan Raya. Along the way, we encounter a dry creek full of fossils, that because million years ago all this land was covered by the sea. Very interesting area of Bisnagas, a sort of wide cactus that could live more than one hundred years. Picnic lunch. We end our day with a transfer to Tehuacan. Hotel and dinner. Distance by Km: 40 Time riding : 5-6 hours Time of transportation : 2 hours and 1 ½ hours Level : medium 4 (from 1 to 10) Type of trail : easy and wide , a mixture of single trail and wide off road.

Vegetation : Desert and lots of cactus species.
Day 3 Haciendas and Cantona
Distance by Km: 52 Time riding : 5 hours Time of transportation :2 Hours Type of trail : easy and wide; a mixture of single trail and wide off road. Day 4 Volcanic LakesBike to two beautiful volcaniclagoons, Atexac and Alchichica. Picnic lunch. From just outside of the hacienda we ride to visit two splendid lagoons, the first hidden behind a huge hill and the second situated in the mouth of a dead volcano. Return to the Hacienda. Distance by Km: 45 Time riding : 5 hours Time of transportation : 45min and 1 ½ hours Altitude : from 2300 to 2400 ( up and down) Type of trail : easy and wide; a mixture of single trail and wide off road. Day 5 Over the Continental Divide
We begin the day with a short transfer up the mountains to the height of land on the shoulder of Cofre Perote Volcano. We start our volcano ride at Rancho Nuevo village 3000 metres above the sea at the Gulf of Mexico. Rolling down through pine forest and tiny villages like Tembladeras, the weather warms as the vegetation changes to jungle and coffee plantation in the town of Xico. Overall our descent for this day is a vertical mile! We'll end the day at the spectacular waterfalls below Xico and then transfer to Selva Azul Lodge, our home for the next three days. The lodge is composed of simple yet comfortable camp style rooms. Facilities include a pool, a Temazcal ( traditional steam bath) and a kitchen where our meals will be prepared by local women. Distance by Km: 55 Time riding : 5 hours Time of transportation : 45min and 1/2 hours Altitude : from 3000 to 1400 ( up and down) Temperature : 10 Cº to 20 Cº Type of trail : easy and wide , a mixture of single trail and wide off road. Weather: Fresh and mild humid, moist. Vegetations: Pine bush and tropical with coffee plantation. Day 6 Veracruz Villages and Springs
Today we ride easy terrain from the lodge through cane fields and country roads to the tiny village of Apazapan. We'll start early to avoid the mid day heat but time our return to have a swim in the clear waters at Poza Azul, then back to the Lodge for some r & r and spring ride B. Just ouside selvazul lodge we start a ride to Apazapan village , time to swim at la Poza Azul. Back to selvazul lodge. Dinner. Distance by Km: 20-50KM Time riding : 2-5 hours Day 7 White Water Rafting on Rio Antigua
Our final adventure is today on the gorgeous Antigua River. Paddling with the experts from Selva Azul, we will ride some Class III rapids through some enjoyable holes and finish out through Heaven's Door Rapids at Aquascalientes. A great introduction to whitewater for first timers. Along the way we'll see fisherman casting nets for fresh water shrimp. With any luck we'll be seeing some of those sweet fresh crustaceans on the dinner table tonight. After an lazy afternoon chilling in the hammocks we'll enjoy our farewell dinner. Day 8 Transfer to Mexico City:All good things must come to an end and we will load up and drive back over the mountains to Mexico City (4-5 hours depending on traffic). A less tedious way to end the trip could be to stay in Puebla that night and take the bus to the airport the following day. We can recommend hotels and modes of transport. |
