Mexico - Yucatan Rafting

Join Eastwind on an exciting journey into Mexico’s largest tropical rain forest. This trip combines a thrilling adventure with cultural tourism, mysterious ruins, wonderful, natural vistas and hands on tour guiding.

Row and drift down one hundred miles of peaceful river… silent except for the cries of the howler monkeys. No experience in rafting is necessary as you will be guided and cared for along the way by the very experienced Selva Azul team. Learn about Mayan history and culture and efforts to protect the jungle habitat. The expedition team will explore in and around the Montes Azules Biosphere Reserve, surrounded by the rain forest of Chiapas State.

For the first time, Eastwind offers a river rafting trip into the Montes Azules Reserve in the Lacandon region along the Guatemala border. Travel the Lacantun and Usumacinta rivers by raft, camping on the shore each night. Here is your opportunity to see endangered wild species and to explore some of the remaining areas of Mexico’s dwindling tropical forest.

Deep in the forest, explore the rarely visited Mayan ruins of Yaxchilan and Bonampak. Before and after the rafting trip, visit some of the great sites of Chiapas, the world renowned ruins at Palenque, the incredible turquoise falls at Agua Azul, the high mountain colonial city of San Cristobal de las Chiapas and, the traditional Tzotzil Indian market town of San Juan Chamula.
