If you want a bike trip that takes you beyond the usual mass market cruise ship standards, then you are looking in the right place. At Eastwind Cycle we have twenty years of experience operating day trips and more for groups and individuals. We know the roads, the hidden spots, the background stories and the sea coast. How about a bike ride on a quiet coastal road, lunch with the locals and back to town in time to see the city all before your shiop sails away? Maybe you love to meander among the vineyards and stop to taste some of our renowned Nove Scotia wines. For something a little less ambitious but no less fun, we tour the city from the cruise pier and really get to know Halifax and its fascinating history. Our Port of Halifax shore excursions are structured and priced so that we can accommodate requests from as few as two people to full sized groups.

All our tours start and finish at the I Heart Bikes | Halifax Bike Rentals location adjacent to the cruise ship Pier 21.

Option # 1 Coastal Byways

If what you are looking for is an exciting ride along the coast past boats, lighthouses and harbours, this is the trip for you! Forget Peggy's Cove, its parking lots and herds of tour buses, on this ride you will see the real Nova Scotia up close from the seat of your bicycle. You will be met at the Port of Halifax and whisked out to beautiful Hubbards, about 45 minutes away and here you will start the ride. Ride as little as you want or up to 40 miles. Stop in for some of Nova Scotia's best fish and chips at the Bayswater take out or enjoy a home cooked lunch at the Deck in Blandford before more miles of rolling seaside vistas.

Costs:

$250 for two people. Inquire for discounts on larger groups

Option # 2 Bike Tour of the Salt Marsh Trail

For a longer day trip the Cole Harbour - Salt Marsh Trail System is an ideal place for safe, scenic and easy cycling. Perfect for cruise ship guests in the Port of Halifax, Eastwind Cycle offers a fun and informative shore excursion designed with the casual cyclist in mind. Biking time is 2 hours with time allowed for transfer from the ship and for exploring Fisherman's Cove at the end of the ride. The trail system is based on a former rail bed and so is very flat with an easily ridable, hard packed surface.

The rail bed follows a causeway across a wildlife rich marsh with salt water on either side. The marsh is home to over ninety species of birds with frequent sitings of blue heron, osprey, ducks and geese. Along the way our group will stop at interpretive sites to learn about the natural and human history of this fascinating area. The starting point is Lawrencetown Beach, with its pounding waves, a favourite of local surfers. We end the ride at Fisherman's Cove which is a working fishing village complete with lobster boats, shops and some great fish and chip stands. Take some time to explore this wonderful place before transferring back to the cruise ship dock.

Costs: $200 for two. Inquire for larger group discounts

Option # 3 Tour of Point Pleasant Park

Our easiest trip - straight out of Pier 21 at the Port of Halifax this tour winds through the historic South End and into Point Pleasant Park. Once inside the park we ride on traffic free carriage roads and make frequent stops to learn about the fascinating history of the park and the city itself. Beyond the park gates we ride through the grounds of St. Mary's University and continue for a visit to the Public Gardens and the bustling shopping district on Spring Garden Road as we wend our way pack to the ship.

Costs:

$25 per person per hour for a minimum of 2 people
